science program Overview and Strategy of the IPWR Science Program

The Institute for Public Health and Water Research (IPWR) is a not-for-profit, independent science and education organization. The mission of IPWR is to promote research and education on: the value of drinking quality water in the improvement of health and the impact and health implications of consuming contaminated water. IPWR provides scientific direction, funds and other support to investigators to encourage research, publications and meetings in these areas.

The IPWR has structured the grants program to complement federal, industry and other non-profit research support programs and to encourage investigators with new ideas. IPWR will fund a broad range of research questions around water and health with the goal of supporting high quality innovative grant applications. IPWR is interested in attracting new investigators to the field of water and health research and is emphasizing high pay-off research.

IPWR will organize its annual research funding around broad scientific themes. This strategy will, over time, allow the development of an integrated research portfolio, allow IPWR to fund several grants in a scientific area, and will help to develop a critical mass of research activity in the designated thematic area.

The IPWR was launched with an unrestricted research and educational grant from The Brita Products Company for the purposes of advancing our understanding of the relationship between water and health.
